For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun!
Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create
rivers in the dry wasteland.
Cornerstone Methodist Church was formed in Summer 2018, bringing together Abbeytown, Aspatria, Caldbeck, Silloth and Wigton Methodist Churches. All of our chapels had been part of the Wigton circuit for many years but, as is so often the case, had operated in their own communities and silos for far too long. The vision of CMC is to bring these communities together in fellowship and mission so that we can share the load as we seek to build the kingdom.
At the centre of CMC is the commitment to continue to serve the 5 communities that we currently serve. In 3 of those communities we have a worshipping presence in church buildings and in 1 we have a worshipping presence in a home. In the last of our communities (Silloth) we are currently in the process of discerning what our presence is in the town, however what is clear is that we do not abandon our vision and passion for this community.
It is this latter point that sums up the core ethos of CMC. Where, at one time, the Silloth Methodist community would have withdrawn once the building became surplus to requirements, now we have at our heart the vision that we are one church in five communities.
Although we realise that this is the old website for Wigton chapel, we hope that it will give you a flavour of the mission and ministry that we take in to Cornerstone Methodist Church.
